Frequently Asked Questions

Are these calculators really free?

Yes. Every calculator on HomeCalc Helper is free to use with no sign-up, and all calculations happen in your browser.

Should I use feet or metres?

Use whichever you measured in. Every calculator has a unit selector, and results are shown in both US customary and metric units where helpful.

Why do the calculators add a waste allowance?

Real projects involve cuts, breakage, pattern matching and mistakes. A 10% waste allowance is standard for most materials; complex layouts may need 15%.

Are the estimates exact?

No — they are planning estimates. Actual needs vary with surface condition, product coverage and installation method. Always confirm coverage figures with the manufacturer and buy a little extra.

What is the difference between a US gallon and a UK gallon?

A US liquid gallon is 3.785 litres; a UK imperial gallon is 4.546 litres. Our paint calculator lets you choose, so coverage figures stay correct.

Do you store my measurements?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our servers.
